$6.69 per gallon for diesel?

California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and the stat's cap-and-trade program could start to have serious consequenses for the California trucking industry. A study conducted in 2012 for the California Trucking Association estimates that the two policies could increase the price of diesel by more than $2 per gallon, resulting in an average price of about $6.69 per gallon. The study goes on to estimate that over 600,000 jobs in the containerized import sector will be lost, as will $68.5 billion in domestic product coming from California.
We will have to wait and see if this scenario plays out. The LCFS is currently being challenged and is being heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals. Many believe the U.S. Supreme Court will be the final place to challenge the legality of the policy, but will this court agree to hear the case?
