Freeway work impacts California's 605 and 405 freeways

In what has been dubbed a "Mini Carmageddon" by news outlets, the southbound connector ramp from the 605 Freeway to the 405 Freeway has been shut down, and will be reconstructed.  This construction will make room for a new carpool connector lanes, as well as additional lanes on the 405 Freeway.  Motorists will have to detour onto major surface streets through Long Beach, Rossmoor and Seal Beach.

"Carmageddon II" will take place later this year when the 405 Freeway is again shut down in both directions between the 10 and 101 Freeways.

California may lift ban on traffic school

Earlier this month the California Senate Transportation Committee voted unanimously to advance a bill that would allow commercial drivers to attend traffic school for minor violations that have occurred while operating a personal vehicle.  Currently California law does not allow professional drivers to attend traffic school to remove traffic violations that have occurred while driving a personal vehicle.  This includes personal motorcycles. 

The bill, AB1888, has now moved to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
