OOIDA to sue New York's State Department of Taxation and Finance

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association has decided to sue New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. The lawsuit will be challenging the constitutionality of highway taxes imposed on trucks for use of the state highways.

The lawsuit will ask the courts to declare these taxes on out-of-state truckers unconstitutional as well as ask for refunds and attorney fees to the out-of-state truckers that have been affected by this tax. Currently the truckers are required to pay $15 for registration and $4 for the decals to operate on the state highways.

ATA Reports new Turnover rate

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) reported that the "Annualized turnover rate at large U.S. truckload fleets climbed two points to 99 percent in the second quarter of 2013".

Costs will be higher for fleets due to the changing of HOA Rule, CSA, and the turnovers will make it a tough market for qualified and experienced drivers. However, truckload fleets with less than $30 million in annual revenue has held steady at 82 percent while the less-than-truckload fleets dropped down to 6 percent (which is 3 percent lower than last year).
